Play your part in the future of Musica Viva Australia
A will is more than a piece of paper, it is a powerful commitment that can help preserve the vital role music plays in the lives of all Australians.
⸻
"Music is the most important thing in my life…I have donated to MVA in most years recently; however, when preparing my will I wanted to make much larger gifts to those groups of most importance to me. I have therefore happily included a bequest to MVA in my will. Its three main activities are all vital to the musical life of Australia, in different ways."
— Richard Wilkins, MVA Donor and Custodian

Your legacy is our future
Thanks to the incredible generosity and foresight of those who have committed to Musica Viva Australia’s future, we are proudly celebrating our 80th year.
Those who have chosen to leave a gift in their will to Musica Viva Australia have done more than simply contribute – they have nurtured, shaped and secured the very future of music in this country. Their legacy is woven into the fabric of every performance, every note, and every moment of artistic brilliance we are privileged to witness. These gifts are not just donations; they are lifelines that allow us to thrive, preserving the soul of Australian music and creating a lasting impact on our vibrant cultural landscape.
Our 80-year history is testament to the resilience and dedication of our staff, musicians, and audiences, as well as the remarkable generosity of supporters like you. We invite you to celebrate your passion for music by leaving a gift in your will to share the same joys you’ve experienced with Musica Viva Australia, with future generations of Australians.
Your gift will help us today, tomorrow and for years to come – especially during times of uncertainty.

"MVA was able to weather the challenges of the global pandemic, while maintaining important programs and ensuring support for the artistic community we are a part of, thanks to the vision of carefully stewarded past legacies. We recognise that the decision to leave a bequest represents an extraordinary level of trust in the work that we do, and feel a deep sense of accountability and gratitude towards those who have taken this step."
— Anne Frankenberg CEO, Musica Viva Australia

If you are creating a will or updating it, we encourage you to seek your own legal and financial advice, and to discuss your intentions with your loved ones, to ensure that your will is valid and your wishes are expressed correctly. It may be helpful to your legal adviser, State or Public Trustee or Trustee Company to have reference to our suggested wording below when updating your will.
If you do not have a solicitor, you can consult the Law Society in your state to find a solicitor in your area who specialises in wills and estates. If you already have a will, your legal advisor can amend it to include a gift to Musica Viva Australia by adding a separate document called a codicil. If you do not create a will, your property will be dispersed according to the laws of your state.
⸻
"It has given me immense peace of mind that I can continue my support of Musica Viva beyond this world. I feel it is important to ‘normalise’ discussions and feelings around bequests, so I would be delighted to be recognised by Musica Viva for my gift."
— Robyn Tamke, MVA Donor and Custodian

There are many ways you can include Musica Viva Australia in your will, including:
- Residual Gift – the remainder of an estate after specific gifts have been disbursed.
- Percentage – a percentage of either the residue or the entire estate.
- Specific Gift – a specific sum of money, property, shares, bonds or other items of value.
We suggest including a residual gift, which is very easy to arrange and allows you to decide exactly how much of your estate you wish to leave to your loved ones, with the remaining portion (or percentage of that portion) given to support Musica Viva Australia. This means that even if your financial circumstances change, you will still leave the proportions you intended. By dividing your gift by percentages, you can be confident your gift will maintain its intended impact, and that it will keep up with inflation and retain its value over time. Just 1% can make an incredible difference.
We greatly appreciate general or untied gifts, as they allow us to invest in areas of work with the most pressing needs, which can change over time. If you would like to direct your gift to a specific area, we encourage you to contact us for a confidential discussion before finalising these details.
It’s important to use the correct wording and legal names when making a gift in your will to ensure that it can be used as you intended. Musica Viva Australia recommends the following wording for your nominated gift, though your solicitor will be able to offer you more advice and assist you in preparing the document:
"I give to Musica Viva Australia (indicate percentage, amount, item or property) as a contribution to be applied for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the Company Secretary at the time shall be sufficient discharge of my executor’s duty”.
Legal Name Musica Viva Australia
