Ziggy & Miles

Brothers in music

Australian classical guitar has some spectacular new heroes! Brothers Ziggy and Miles show off their immaculate mastery in these joyous works for guitar duo, that run the gamut from Bach to Brazil.

SIDEKICK

Sidekick is a program of works that speak to Ziggy and Miles' falling in love with the guitar as teenagers. Its name is inspired by Katie Jenkins’ work Sidekick, which is a vivid portrait of the two brothers' bickering and sparring virtuosity. Also on the program, Nigel Westlake’s Songs from the Forest, Radamés Gnattali’s Suite Retratos, and Ziggy and Miles’ own arrangement of Debussy’s timeless Suite bergamasque. Plus, hear a work commissioned by the brothers from Melbourne guitarist/composer Ken Murray:  Trin Warren Tam-boore is the Wurundjeri peoples' name for the North Melbourne's beautiful wetlands meaning bellbird waterhole.

REARRANGE

Ziggy and Miles present a collection of suites and sonatas, all arranged or adapted for the guitar duo. Nigel Westlake’s Mosstrooper Peak was originally for solo guitar but was adapted for the Grigoryan Brothers guitar duo in 2014 and stands as the only major guitar duo sonata by an Australian composer. Similarly, Brazilian composer Radamés Gnattali’s Suite Retratos was originally written for for solo mandolin, choro ensemble, and string orchestra but has undergone numerous adaptations since. Finally, the brothers perform their own arrangements of Bach’s Italian Concerto and Debussy’s Suite bergamasque.
